Peine, Germany in the Cold

When we booked out tickets the day time temperature in Peine was around 15 C and now that we have arrived it is around -5 C, big difference. So after a day out and a day in the hotel we are off to find some winter coats, crazy given our new city of residence. The weather is great and we are truly accustomed to the cold versus the Dubai heat, its the irony of buying winter clothing for such a short few days versus an entire winter in the Middle East, c'est la vie.

Backing up a few days, these pictures were taken on Tuesday here in Germany, Monday was a right off as we didn't actually leave to hotel except for a nightmarish dinner with Andy's boss and a co-worker from Calgary, good thing we know them well and they have their own kids - it was bad. Anyways, we ventured out to the parking lot to play in the snow Anna was quite enthusiastic about the whole thing and sweet Emilee truly loves to do what ever her sister is doing. Such fun.

The 'snow' was melted from the grass but had stayed on the parking surface so in true mother of the year fashion, yes I let them play in the parking lot, its a small town. We had a great time, the novelty was very appealing to the girls and I love taking their pictures, here are some.

Our hotel and the automatic rental car, first time ever with a navigation system -cool toy. We tried for a snowball but the snow isn't wet enough, they still had fun rubbing their hands in it.

Well we have come how many thousands of miles and after 8 mins it is starting to go down hill, kids are so much fun. Mommy had a good nights sleep though, so sure no problem we can go in, Anna has to go potty anyways. But then, we see a clear patch of undisturbed snow, you guessed it, snow angels.

So cute.

Now its time to go inside and warm up. Wait for me ladies. So what's better than making snow angels in the parking lot, drinking hot chocolate after making snow angels in the parking lot - like I said mother of the year...

Radiant heating has some serious advantages, we had warm bellies and mittens in less than 20 minutes, so fun. Time for a little snooze for us girls, should be easy after all that fresh air.

A wonderful nap later and we are on the road in search of the historical market and shopping district, plus there is an old church with a beautiful clock and bells to signal the hour etc. Wish me luck, "if I can drive in Dubai, I should be able to drive just about anywhere"

We made it, took a few wrong turns, ended up on the Autobahn somehow, thank goodness for that nav system. Lost my cool with Anna during said Autobahn experience, they say the most wonderful things. I was apologizing and asked her to help me when driving on new roads to be quiet so we can be safe and get to where we want to go, all she said was "we sure drive on a lot of new roads" Sorry sweetie, you are right.

Back on track , found a parking spot (way harder to do than it should have been) and we even found a FABRIC store, mom is happy. Some great blue and red German made cottons for a lap quilt, I can see it now. Found a dollar store equivalent, a book store and the old church.

The market square had a lot of vendors and cafes set up for Christmas shopping, even a few rides for the girls, hence the big smiles . We decided with our parking expired we would come back with dad one night this week. We hope to go tomorrow (Thursday) it should be fun. We will post more pictures then and let you know what treasures we find. For now its researching children outer wear stores close by if possible and then sleep. Gute Nacht, big hugs and lots of love ~the Andersons
